Kathi's story . . .

I was married for seven years to a man who seemed, at first, to be my
dream come true. Then my life turned into a roller coaster. I had
thought my husband was a man of dignity, but he revealed himself to be
a very troubled man, a man of high anger. I grew afraid of him and
could not stand those feelings of fear, so I went to Safe Harbor in
Richmond to learn how to keep myself safe.

During my transition to leaving my husband, I wrote a book,
Free Like
a Butterfly,
which I hoped both victims and survivors of domestic
violence could use. My goal is that it will be a self-help book for many,
leading them to see the light at the end of the tunnel. [Editor’s note:
Kathi’s book of sayings and butterfly photos,
Free Like a Butterfly:
Butterflies Are Free,
and her new book for children, Why Does Daddy
Hit Mommy?
are available for viewing at Bookemon.com.]

Since working with the staff at Safe Harbor, I have also become
involved with the Action Alliance and joined the Survivor Caucus.
Those organizations have become my best friends.
